If you please, indulge me……

Wow!!! I’ve been married for 14 years today (OK, I was a child bride 🙂 ). Chris is my friend, my love , the father of our beautiful girls and quite possibly the best conversationalist in the universe. I read once that it’s easy to find someone to commiserate with your grief, the real trick is finding someone with whom you can laugh. So, thanks darling for the laughter we’ve shared and the adventures on our journey. I’ll mush out a little on the poem — I could have gone with the ever appropriate Shakespeare and I did think about Sonnet 18 (you know, the “shall I compare thee to a summer’s day”), but I thought Marlowe captures the joy ever so well. And of course, it’s all green-y, with waterfalls, and small animals….

The Passionate Sheperd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe
Come live with me and be my love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That valleys, groves, hills, and fields,
Woods, or steepy mountain yields.

And we will sit upon the rocks,
Seeing the shepherds feed their flocks,
By shallow rivers to whose falls
Melodious birds sing madrigals.

And I will make thee beds of roses
And a thousand fragrant posies,
A cap of flowers, and a kirtle
Embroidered all with leaves of myrtle;

A gown made of the finest wool
Which from our pretty lambs we pull;
Fair lined slippers for the cold,
With buckles of the purest gold;

A belt of straw and ivy buds,
With coral clasps and amber studs:
And if these pleasures may thee move,
Come live with me, and be my love.

The shepherds’ swains shall dance and sing
For thy delight each May Fall morning:
If these delights thy mind may move,
Then live with me and be my love.

Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction. –> Antoine de Saint-Exupery
